The Spark of Genius- Keiran Cooper

The Spark of Genius- Keiran Cooper

If the term "still" resonates with the temporal dimension of clothes participating in life, then "genius" signifies our focus on the "individual" behind those clothes.
More than distant genius, we are more concerned with recognizing and celebrating the sparks that exist in ordinary people. Our vintage-inspired brand, Still Genius, employs classic, functional, and delicately textured clothing to convey our attention to the "individual." We encourage everyone to discover and hone their unique talents.

The Talented Player: Keiran Cooper

Yo-yo artist Keiran Cooper epitomizes what we consider to be a “genius.” With him, we see an alternate potential for YO-YO as a skill-based sport. In just a few minutes of performance, he consistently integrates life's intuition and imagination, always leaving audiences amazed. We admire that even on the competition floor, he never compromises his performance style just for the sake of points. Focusing and comfortably enjoying the process is what he truly believes in – the very essence that Still Genius seeks.
Drawn by Keiran Cooper's distinct style, we invited him during this year's Yo-Yo World Championship (2023 WYYC) to participate in a Still Genius creative project. Off the competition arena, we observed Keiran incorporating YO-YO seamlessly into his everyday life and were often struck by his unique perspective on the world around him.
Interestingly, we noticed that the T-shirts Keiran wore outside the competition had traces of manual customization. He explained that it was to adapt the clothing to his body proportions.

It's as if this revelation acted as an antenna, continually signaling to us that whether it's hobbies, clothing, or life, finding what "fits" oneself is paramount.

Clothing for Participatory Living

Rather than following a particular fashion label, Keiran leans towards clothing that can be an enduring part of his life. We're delighted that Still Genius's black raw selvedge denim happens to be his perfect companion. Whether he's cycling, traveling, or hopping around the world for competitions, his daily habits and experiences leave marks on these black jeans, carrying unique memories.

We also look forward to Keiran "aging" his clothing over time.

During our journey, Keiran shared with us that, having lived in California for so long and now studying in London, the varying temperatures and changing climates in both places have made him adopt a habit of always carrying a zip-up hoodie in his bag. A hoodie that bridges the gap between varying weathers, like a gentle and lasting friendship, offering warm support – much like his passion for YO-YO.

After the World Championship, we stuffed a striped knitwear into Keiran's overfilled suitcase in the hotel. The next day, he met us wearing it. Emerging from the jumbled suitcase, the knit surprisingly maintained its shape and drape – just as we anticipated. In the relaxed and soft knit, Keiran suddenly had a flash of inspiration and started playing with his YO-YO in a lively manner.

When one is comfortably dressed, creativity and imagination tend to flow effortlessly.

Reflecting on our journey with Keiran Cooper, we've deepened our understanding of Still Genius. If the term "still" reflects the temporal dimension of clothing in life, then "genius" emphasizes our focus on the "individual" behind these garments.
