The Spark of Genius: Keiran Cooper

Still Genius
If the word "still" echoes the temporal dimension of clothing participating in life, then "genius" speaks to our focus on the person behind the garment.
Rather than distant prodigies, we care more about whether we can exist for the spark of brilliance in ordinary people. Still Genius, a light vintage brand, conveys this focus on "people" through classic, functional, and finely textured clothing, encouraging everyone to discover and dedicate themselves to their own talents.
Genius Player
Keiran Cooper
Yo-yo player Keiran Cooper is exactly the kind of "genius" we have in mind. In him, we see another possibility of yo-yo as a technical sport. Within just a few minutes of performance, he consistently blends intuition and imagination drawn from life,
bringing surprise to audiences. We love that even when standing on the competition stage, he never changes his performance style just to chase points. Staying focused and enjoying himself with ease is what he insists on throughout the process—and that is exactly what Still Genius seeks.

Drawn to Keiran Cooper's unique style, we invited him to participate in a Still Genius creative project during this year's Yo-Yo World Championships (WYYC 2023) and shared an enjoyable journey with him. Off the court, we saw a Keiran who integrates yo-yo into his life anytime, anywhere, and we were struck time and again by his unique perspective on the world around him.
Even more intriguing, we noticed that the T-shirts Keiran wears off the court all show signs of manual trimming. He told us he does that to make the clothes fit his body proportions better.
That was like an antenna, constantly sending us a signal: whether it's a hobby, clothing, or life itself, finding what truly "fits" you matters most.

For Participatory Living
Rather than following a popular label, Keiran prefers to choose clothing that can participate in his life over the long term. We're delighted that the Still Genius black selvedge raw denim jeans happen to accompany him to many places. Whether he's cycling, traveling far, or moving between world competitions, his daily habits and experiences leave their marks on these black jeans. They will carry unique memories. We look forward to seeing Keiran "cultivate" the texture of time on his clothing.

During the journey, Keiran also shared with us that because he has long lived in California and now studies in London, the temperature differences and changing climates between the two regions have made him develop the habit of keeping a zip-up hoodie in his bag to adapt to different temperatures and weather. A zip-up hoodie that serves as a daily regulator is like a gentle, lasting friendship—providing friendly support to the wearer, just like the hobby of yo-yo.

After the world championships ended, we stuffed a striped knit sweater into Keiran's suitcase, which was so packed it couldn't close. The next day, he wore it when we met. The sweater, freed from the chaotic luggage space, surprisingly remained smooth and draped well—just as we had hoped. Then, wearing the loose, soft knit, he suddenly had a spark of inspiration and started playing a lighthearted yo-yo sequence with clapping and circular motions.
When you feel at ease in what you wear,
your creativity and imagination follow.

After the journey with Keiran Cooper. Some time after our journey with Keiran Cooper ended, as we reflected, we gained an even deeper understanding of Still Genius itself. If the word "still" echoes the temporal dimension of clothing participating in life, then "genius" speaks to our focus on the person behind the garments.
